Brașov weather and what it changes for your visit

The village of Bran sits at about 760 m in the foothills, and the high mountain road nearby climbs to 2,042 m. That gap matters. A mild day in Brașov can be a snowy day on the Transfăgărășan, so plan the valley and the mountains separately.

This page does not give month-by-month temperatures. Instead it shows what you can rely on: opening hours, closing seasons and road rules, which all follow the calendar. Check a current forecast for Brașov or Bran a few days before you travel. If you have not fixed a date yet, Bran Castle tickets and opening hours list the summer and winter schedules in full.

Season by season

What each part of the year means for Bran and the region.

Spring and summer

The castle runs its longest days from 1 April, with last entry at 19:00. The Transfăgărășan high section reopens in early summer, and in 2026 that was 12 June, so do not plan a drive over the pass in spring. The Râșnov garden also stays open until 19:00.

Autumn

The castle keeps its summer hours until 1 November. In late October it holds a Halloween program and sells Halloween tickets instead of regular entry for those days. Peleș and Pelișor close for cleaning and preventive conservation in autumn 2026: Pelișor from 28 September to 3 November, and Peleș from 2 November to 1 December. Snow and poor visibility can reach the high road early.

Winter

From 2 November the last entry at the castle is 18:00. Expect snow in the mountains and plan extra time for the drive from Brașov. Poiana Brașov is the winter sports area above the city, but nobody can promise snow or open lifts on a given date.

Best time to visit Transylvania: what you are weighing

There is no single best month. There are trade-offs.

If you want the most open days and the longest hours, choose April to October, when the castle runs its summer plan. If you want the Transfăgărășan, choose summer and check the road status before you go. If you want the Halloween program, you travel in late October and accept that the castle sells Halloween tickets for that period. If you prefer a quieter castle and do not need the mountain road, the winter plan works, but it has shorter days and Peleș has closed periods in the cold months.

For most first visits, a weekday in the summer plan gives the widest choice. Whatever you pick, read how to reach Bran from Bucharest before you book transport, and look at the Brașov guide for a base in the city.
