Bucharest to Bran Castle: the short answer

No train runs all the way to Bran. The rail part of the trip ends in Brașov, and a bus or a car covers the last stretch of about 30 km. That makes three practical options: a day trip from Bucharest with transport included, the train to Brașov plus a bus to Bran, or your own car.

Whichever you choose, plan the day around the castle hours. Bran opens at 12:00 on Monday and at 09:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, and the last admission is at 19:00 in summer and 18:00 in winter. Peleș, a common stop on the way, is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

For most visitors from Bucharest, a day trip is the simplest choice when you have only one day. If you have two or more days, the train to Brașov and a night there make the castle visit relaxed.

By train and bus

As one example, the IC train 531 leaves București Nord at 12:21 and reaches Brașov at 14:36, which is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Timetables change, so check the current timetable for your date before you travel.

From Brașov, a bus continues to Bran. One bus runs from Brașov Autogara 2 at 07:00 and reaches Bran Centru Castel at 07:54, which is 54 minutes. The fare is RON 15. That example is a bus towards Moieciu, run by a private regional operator.

Do not add the two examples together into one neat connection. The change, the way between the railway station and the bus station and the waiting time are not included in either figure. The train itself does not stop in Bran, which is why a direct ride is not possible.

If you come from the airport, the page on Bucharest airport to Bran covers the airport train and the next steps.

Brașov to Bran Castle

From Brașov the castle is about 30 km away. The usual road is the DN73/E574, and 35 minutes is a planning value for a drive, not a promise for busy days. The bus example above is the public alternative. Day trips and private transfers also start in Brașov, and the cards above show current options. More on the town itself is on the Brașov page.

Romania moved to a new electronic road toll system in October 2026, so check how a hired car is covered before you drive. The traffic on the road from Bucharest changes with the day, and a start well before opening time gives you a margin.

Planning the day

For a day trip from Bucharest, the castle ticket is a separate cost unless the product says otherwise. In 2026 an adult standard ticket costs RON 100, and all prices and categories are on the tickets page. In winter the castle closes earlier, with the last admission at 18:00 from 2 November to 31 March.

If you want to add Peleș to the same day, choose a Wednesday to Sunday outside its closure periods. Cleaning and conservation closures apply in autumn 2026: Pelișor from 28 September to 3 November and Peleș from 2 November to 1 December. More on the tours page.
