From Bucharest airport to Bran Castle

Most visitors land at Henri Coandă Airport, code OTP, and the castle lies about 30 km from Brașov. No train ends in Bran. The railway takes you to Brașov, and from there you continue by bus or car. Each leg has its own fare and time, so do not treat them as one ticket.

If you would rather not manage three legs, compare a day trip from Bucharest to Bran Castle or the guided tours, and check what transport each one includes.

Train from Bucharest airport (OTP) to the city

The airport train runs from Henri Coandă to București Nord around the clock, about every 40 minutes. The ride takes 20 to 25 minutes. The fare since 14 December 2025 is RON 6.50 without a reserved seat. A reserved seat costs RON 4.50 more, so RON 11 with a seat. If you buy from the conductor on board, the price is RON 13.

You can buy online, at a ticket office, at a machine or with a contactless card on the train. These are different prices for different ways of buying, not competing flat rates.

Bucharest to Brașov by train, then to Bran

The railway ends in Brașov.

From București Nord, trains run to Brașov. One example train left București Nord at 12:21 and arrived in Brașov at 14:36, which is 2 hours 15 minutes. Timetables change by day, so check the current one. Prices depend on the train and the seat reservation.

In Brașov, a private regional bus runs toward Moieciu and stops at Bran Centru Castel. One example departs Autogara 2 at 07:00, arrives at 07:54 and costs RON 15. Do not add these examples into one connection. The walk from the station to the bus station, the change and the wait are not in the times. If you stay overnight in Brașov, see where to stay.

Brașov airport (GHV)

A smaller airport near the city.

Brașov-Ghimbav Airport uses the code GHV. Its destinations have included London Luton, Dortmund, Rome Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa, Budapest, Naples and Memmingen. Routes and frequencies change, so do not assume a daily flight. Before you book, plan the last leg to Brașov or Bran by taxi, transfer or hire car, because the airport has no direct line to the castle that you can count on.

Taxi and transfer from Bucharest airport (OTP)

The direct road option.

A taxi or a pre-booked transfer takes you from OTP straight to Bran by road. It is not comparable with the RON 6.50 airport train, which only goes to the city. Prices depend on the vehicle and the time, so there is no flat fare to quote. Agree the price before you set off, and ask about extras: a luggage supplement, a child seat and a night surcharge.

Car hire and parking

Romania car rental: what to check.

Road toll

Romania moved to a new electronic road toll system in October 2026. Do not rely on older flat tariffs. Ask the rental company whether the toll is included and valid for your whole trip.

Prices and deposit

Daily rates and deposit rules depend on the company, the car and the dates. Compare your own dates and read the deposit terms before you pay.

Parking near Bran

Parking rules and fees at the castle and in the old town of Brașov change. Do not assume you can drive up to the castle gate or into the old town. Plan to park and walk, and ask your host about parking if you sleep in the city.

The drive itself

From Brașov, take the DN73/E574 road and plan about 35 minutes. That is a planning value, not a promise on busy days.
