Inside Bran Castle: what to expect

The interior reflects the castle's time as a royal residence. It was rebuilt and furnished as the home of Queen Marie, and later it became a museum. That history shapes the rooms, but it does not tell you which rooms are open on the day of your visit. Plan for the visit as a whole rather than for one particular room.

A standard ticket covers the castle and the Royal Park. Two exhibitions, the Time Tunnel and the Torture Rooms, are sold separately and also in combined tickets. Prices and categories are on the Bran Castle tickets page. The visit includes stairs, so ask the ticket office if mobility is a concern.

Queen Marie's residence

How the royal years shaped the interior.

The city of Brașov gave the castle to Queen Marie on 1 December 1920, and the rebuilding followed. Princess Ileana is named as the queen's successor in the castle's story. The royal family was expelled in 1948, the museum was set up in 1956, and restoration began in 1987 with the reopening in 1993. In 2026 structural, facade and conservation works were announced, which does not mean a closure of the whole castle. The wider story is on the history page.

Hidden stairway and courtyard well

Two details that feature in the visitor story.

A narrow hidden stairway and a well in the inner courtyard are part of what visitors read about the castle. Which sections of the stairway you can walk on the day is not something to count on. Treat it as a pleasant discovery if it is open, not as the reason to come.

The same goes for individual rooms. Do not plan around one particular room, such as Marie's bedroom, or around a fixed number of rooms or a floor-by-floor route. A visit works best when you take the castle as it is presented on the day.

Exhibitions and what they cost

Sold separately and in combined tickets, prices for 2026.

OptionAdultChild
Standard ticket (castle and Royal Park)RON 100RON 40, from 5 to 17 years
Time TunnelRON 30RON 30
Torture RoomsRON 30RON 30
Royal Tour Plus Fast PassRON 170RON 110
Royal Tour Plus Fast Pass, guidedRON 210RON 150

The Torture Rooms present a collection of instruments. It is not claimed that every item on display was used in Bran, so read the exhibition as a theme and not as the castle's own history. Parents may want to look at it before taking younger children. The guided version of the Fast Pass runs in English or Romanian on the full hour and adds the extra attractions and a souvenir photo. For most visitors, the standard ticket is enough, and the exhibitions are an add-on if the topic interests you.

The Royal Park and the tea house

Outside the castle walls lies the Royal Park, which is part of the standard ticket. The Royal Tea House stands in the park and is part of the castle's offer. You can enter it without a castle ticket. It is open from 09:00 to 20:00 from Tuesday to Sunday and from 12:00 to 20:00 on Monday.

The castle history also mentions a historic lift between the castle and the park. Ask on site whether anything of the kind is in use today before you plan a route around it.

Access and practical notes

People with disabilities enter free of charge. Do not assume a fully step-free route through the castle, and if you use a wheelchair or a pushchair, ask the ticket office before you travel. Ask about pushchair rules and photo fees at the desk as well.

During the Halloween programme, the castle warns about darkness, flash photography, loud sound, cold and slippery stairs, and regular guided tours do not run in that period. Read the Halloween page if you visit then. Monday opens at 12:00, which is worth knowing if you want to be inside early.
