The history of Bran castle can be traced to the 14th century when the Hungarian King Louis I of Anjou commissioned to have it built along the road between Transylvania to Wallachia to guard the trading routes going through the Bran Pass.

The Dracula lore attached to the Castle came after the release of “Dracula” by English author Bram Stoker in 1897. Stoker never actually visited Bran Castle or even Transylvania. Somehow Bran Castle became associated with the legend of the infamous vampire and the rest is history.
